词汇 | a poet mountain climber |
词源 | a poet mountain climber. English poet Alexander Pope (1688–1744) was so frail and little that author Colley Cibber worried about him when Pope went into another bedroom in the London bordello they were visiting. As Ciber put it: “Ob- serving that Pope had staid as long as without hazarding of his health, . . . threw open the door where I found this little hearty hero, like a terrible Tom Tit, pertly perched upon the mount of love! But such was my surprise that I fairly laid hold of his heels and actually drew him down safe from his danger.” |
