词源 | Phi Beta Kappa. A U.S. national honor society whose lifetime members, both college undergraduates and graduates, are cho- sen on the basis of high academic achievement. The letters constituting the society’s name are from Greek philosophia biou kubernetes: philosophy the guide of life. Founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary in Virginia, Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest Greek-letter society. It was originally a secret social soci- ety at the college but soon became a scholarship honorary society. |
