词汇 | wouldn’t harm a fly |
词源 | wouldn’t harm a fly. The fly has long been considered an in- significant creature, and therefore anyone who wouldn’t hurt one, as in this old proverb, would be considered a gentle, kindly person. These words are the last in the Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho, coming when Norman Bates (and the mother he has made himself) says she/he “wouldn’t even harm a fly.” |
