词源	verbicide. Verbicide, “word murder,” the act of destroying the sense or value of words, or the perversion of a word from its proper meaning, has been applied in our time to political speechmaking and government gobbledygook or officialese. But the word seems to have been coined by Oliver Wendell Holmes, who patterned it on homicide, and applied it to pun- ning in his The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table (1858).
