词汇 | blanket |
词源 | blanket. There may have been a Thomas Blanket of Bristol, England who made blankets, setting up “the first loom for their manufacture in 1340.” But the word blanket comes from the Old French blankete, originally a “white wool cloth used for clothing” but meaning the blanket we know today by the mid- 14th century. This is not to say that a Thomas Blanket couldn’t have adopted the name blanket for his product and popularized the word. See wet blanket. |
