词源 | den of thieves. Den is recorded as “the lair or habitation of a wild beast” at least as far back as Beowulf, written sometime in the 10th century. By the 18th century the word began to be used for a secret hiding place of thieves or the like, Daniel De- foe first recording the expression den of thieves in Robinson Crusoe (1719). |
