Anacreontic. Not many names of people have come to mean “amatory, loving, convivial,” but this is exactly what happened, many centuries after his death, to the Greek poet Anacreon (ca. 570–ca. 480 b.c.). The poet wrote many love poems and drinking songs, which inspired writers in the 17th century to coin the word Anacreontic (sometimes used in the lower case today).
