typographical inspiration. The first numbers of the famous Story Magazine were edited by Whit Burnett and Martha Foley on the island of Majorca, off the coast of Spain, and were printed locally. As the local printer’s font had no w, all those early issues of Story had little holes on the pages where w’s should have been. This inspired Miss Foley to write and print a story in the magazine without a single w. Later in the year, Ed- ward O’Brien included her tale in his annual Best Stories anthology. |
