geology (n.)
1795年，“地球地壳过去和现在状况的科学”，源自现代拉丁语 geologia “地球研究”，由 geo- “地球”和 logia（见 -logy）组成。德语 Geologie 于1785年被证明。在中世纪拉丁语中， geologia（14世纪）意味着“地球事物的研究”，即法律，与关注上帝的作品的艺术和科学不同。达尔文使用 geologize 作为动词。
