词汇 | podunk |
词源 | Podunk. Podunk means “a neck or corner of land” in the Mo- hegan dialect of Algonquian. Originally an Indian place name used by settlers in Connecticut and Massachusetts, it came to be a derisive name for any small or insignificant, out-of-the- way place. (Peoria and Hooterville are other names generations of comedians have used for the home of the rube and the boob.) |
