Taliacotian operation. An operation that grafts flesh from one part of the body to repair another part. It was pioneered by Italian surgeon Gasparo Tagliacozzi (1546–99) and especially involved the reconstruction of nose and lips. It’s hard to believe that such complex operations were performed so long ago, but they were fairly commonplace. |
