consigliore. A term that became familiar to millions of Americans through Mario Puzo’s The Godfather (1969) and the movies made from it. Puzo defined the word in the book: “The Consigliori was also what his name implied [consigliore in Ital- ian means adviser]. He was counselor to the Don, his right hand man, his auxiliary brain.” Since that time Consigliore, of- ten capitalized, has become in popular speech any person in an important advisory position. |
