词汇 | turing machine |
词源 | Turing machine; Turing test. In 1937 British mathematician Alan Mathison Turing (1912–54) described what many regard as the theoretical forerunner of the modern computer. This “Turing machine,” however, was not an object but a mathemati- cal model. Another eponymous term from Turing’s name is the “Turing test,” which no computer has yet passed—that is, no computer has been able “to impersonate a human well enough to fool a human judge,” according to Mitchell Kapor, the found- er of Lotus Development, quoted in the New York Times of 9/1/01. A brilliant codebreaker during World War II, Turing committed suicide after being prosecuted and persecuted as a homosexual. |
