tuberose. This plant is no relation to the rose and, in fact, was first pronounced in three syllables, “tu-ber-ose.” However, peo- ple so often mistakenly associated the flower with the rose that its name came to be pronounced in two syllables, “tube rose.” The tuberose is the only cultivated species of the genus Polian- thus and has many fragrant waxy-white flowers that are used in making perfume. |
