词汇 | touch off |
词源 | touch off. To kill. In Garden of Beasts (2004), a novel set in the 1930s, Jeffrey Deaver has one of his characters say he used the term touch off instead of kill: “It was the phrase Sergeant Alvin York used to describe killing enemy soldiers during the war [World War I]. It made Paul feel less like a punk to use the term that a war hero did.” |
