词汇 | circe |
词源 | Circe. A dangerous, irresistibly fascinating woman, like the sorceress and enchantress Circe, who in The Odyssey turned the companions of Odysseus into swine by means of a magic potion. Odysseus himself was protected by the herb moly, given him by Hermes, and after a year passed persuaded Circe to re- store his companions to human beings and let them all leave her island of Aeaea. Circe, whose name derives from the Greek kirkos, falcon, bore Odysseus a son, Telegonus, and years later Telegonus unwittingly slayed his father while he was searching for Odysseus in Ithaca. Circe, the daughter of Helios, the sun god in Greek mythology, lived on with the wild animals on her island. |
