词源	teasel. There are scores of tiny hooks on the dried seed pods of the teasel plant (Dipsacus fullonum). These hooked seed pods have long been grown for use in mills to raise or tease up the nap on woolen cloth. From this practice we get the hair- dressing expression “teasing,” as well as the “teasing” that irri- tates somebody, just as drawing a teasel pod across someone’s skin would do.
