plimp. In the early 1980s Time magazine predicted a new verb to plimp, meaning “the participatory journalism . . . in which the amateur ventures lamblike among the wolves of pro- fessional sport—and then writes about how to be a lamb chop.” Said verb is based on the name of American author George A. Plimpton, who wrote a number of books about his adventures playing with professionals in various sports. The eponymous word isn’t yet included in any major dictionary, but it has en- tered the language, having been noted in several books besides this one. |
