Illinois gorilla. A derogatory nickname for Abraham Lin- coln during the Civil War. “He was long detained in Washing- ton, having interviews with Abe, the Gorilla; Seward, the Raven; and Feathers Scott.” (Richmond Dispatch, November 13, 1861).
