The $100,000 gold certificate, bearing President Woodrow Wilson’s likeness, is the highest denomination ever issued in the U.S., or anywhere in the world for that matter. Used for official government transactions and never put into general circulation, $100,000 bills were issued in 1934. Twelve remain in Federal Reserve Banks. The highest currency in general circulation is the $10,000 bill, discontinued in 1944, of which perhaps 500 remain in the hands of fortunate people. |
