jitterbug. Jitter Bug was first recorded in 1934 as the title of a song by American bandleader Cab Callaway and two collabo- rators. Calloway probably coined the words, which originally meant a jittery or nervous person, the song’s lyrics describing a “jitter bug” as someone who drinks regularly and thus “has the jitters ev’ry morning.” Within a few years jitterbug began to take on its main meaning of dancing too fast to whirling swing music, jitterbug referring to any dancer who does so. |
