词汇 | caucus |
词源 | caucus. In American politics party leaders hold caucuses, off-the-record meetings, to select leaders and form policy. These leaders are in one sense counselors or advisers, and it is probably the Algonquin Indian word caucauasu, meaning “counselor or adviser,” that gives us the Americanism caucus, first recorded in 1773. |
