Any prophet of doom, woman or man, is called a Cassandra after Cassandra, King Priam of Troy’s daughter, who had been given the gift of prophecy by the god Apollo and fre- quently warned her people of impending disaster. Her prophe- cies always went unheeded because she spurned the advances of Apollo, and she met a violent end after her father declared her mad. |
