Unknown Soldier; Unknown Warrior. The Unknown Sol- dier is the body of an unidentified American soldier killed in France during World War I and buried in the National Ceme- tery at Arlington, Virginia, his grave a national shrine. The Un- known Warrior is his British counterpart, “buried among the kings” in Westminster Abbey. There are similar shrines in Paris and Berlin for French and German unknown soldiers, all from that bloody war. Since 1958 unknown soldiers who died in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam have been buried in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington. See unknown child.
