词汇 | heck |
词源 | heck. Contrary to popular legend, Mark Twain didn’t invent heck as a euphemism for “hell” to please his prudish wife. The word goes back to Lancashire dialect several centuries ago, de- riving from (h)eck!, an expression of surprise, or possibly from the Lancashire oath go to ecky meaning “go to hell.” |
