“Happy Birthday to You.” Most people are surprised to learn that “Happy Birthday to You” is still (until the year 2010) a cop- yrighted song that earns over $1.2 million dollars a year. Ranked as the world’s most frequently sung song in the Guin- ness Book of World Records, it was written in 1893 by Patty Smith Hill (d. 1946) and Mildred J. Hill (d. 1916) as part of their Song Stories for the Kindergarten. Originally entitled “Good Morning to All,” it took its present name from the first line of its second stanza. |
