词源 | guano. A rich, natural manure composed mostly of the ex- crement of seabirds found on small islands near the Peruvian coast, guano takes its name ultimately from the Quechua Indi- an wanu, meaning “dung,” for fertilizer or fuel. Beds of guano on these rocky islands are sometimes as deep as 60 feet. The word guano has also come to mean any similar natural fertilizer, and in the southern United States also means commercial chemical fertilizer. |
