Booker Prize. The prestigious British literary prize for British or Commonwealth citizens is well known in the United States, but few know the term’s origin, even believing “Booker” is syn- onymous with “book.” The $50,000 award actually takes its name from the Booker McConnell firm, which has given it an- nually since 1968. Its American counterpart is the National Book Award or the pulitzer prize. Recently, the Booker Prize has added the name of its new sponsor and become the Man Booker Prize. |
