词汇 | no holds barred |
词源 | no holds barred. The expression no holds barred, mean- ing “no limits or reservations, free and uninhibited,” was surely suggested by a wrestling contest in which all holds are allowed, but not by an officiated match in which there are rules and regulations. It probably dates back to the 19th century. |
