词汇 | black jack pershing |
词源 | Black Jack Pershing. Among the most famous generals of World War I, John J. Pershing (1860–1948) was widely called by the nickname Black Jack. The American general who com- manded the American Expeditionary Force in Europe and later became chief of staff wasn’t so named for his black hair and dark complexion (as was General John A. Logan [1826–86] during the Civil War), or because he liked to play the card game black jack. Pershing was called Black Jack because he commanded the Tenth U.S. Cavalry, the renowned black regi- ment that distinguished itself in the Spanish-American War. |
