词源	Billy Yank. The common term for a Union soldier during the Civil War; his Confederate counterpart was called Johnny Reb. These terms were often shortened to Billy and Johnny and were frequently lowercased. In all wars after the Civil War, up until Vietnam, American soldiers were called Yanks regardless of what section of the country they came from.
