| 词源 | gladiolus. Gladiolus used to be called sword lilies. Long be- fore this the Romans named the flower gladiolus, “little sword,” from the Latin gladius, “sword,” because their long brilliant spikes of flowers, or the shapes of their leaves, resembled the swords Roman gladiators used in the arena. The Chinese call the gladiolus the “sword orchid.” |
