Georgian. Anything to do with the reign of the British monarch George III (1738–1820), who was king for 60 years, from 1760 until his death. This would include Georgian poet- ry, Georgian architecture, Georgian literature, Georgian fur- niture, etc. George III was not a popular king and was more than a bit unbalanced (it was said that he “lost America and then lost his wits.”). Wrote Edmund Clerihew Bentley in a clerihew about the monarch: “George the Third / Ought never to have occurred / One can only wonder / At so gro- tesque a blunder.” See peacock.
