| 词源 | gambrel roof. A type of roof named after a horse’s leg. It is more specifically a ridged roof with two slopes on each side, with the lower side having the steeper pitch. John Bartlett’s Americanisms (1848) says the roof is “so called from its resem- blance to the hind leg of a horse which by farriers is termed the gambrel.” |
