词汇 | from dan to beersheba |
词源 | from Dan to Beersheba. The Bible (Judges 20:1) tells of the ancient Israelites assembling from Dan in the north to Beer- sheba in the south to fight the Benjamites (members of the tribe of Benjamin). This meant all over the world, or every- where to the Israelites of the day, and so the phrase from Dan to Beersheba, mentioned several times in the Old Testament, came to mean the same. See john o’groat’s house. |
