from Dan to Beersheba. The Bible (Judges 20:1) tells of the ancient Israelites assembling from Dan in the north to Beer- sheba in the south to fight the Benjamites (members of the tribe of Benjamin). This meant all over the world, or every- where to the Israelites of the day, and so the phrase from Dan to Beersheba, mentioned several times in the Old Testament, came to mean the same.
