词源	Sooner; sooner. Sooner, capitalized, refers to a native of Oklahoma, the Sooner State. Uncapitalized, the word has sev- eral meanings: 1) someone who settles on government land be- fore it’s opened to settlers; 2) any person who unfairly gets ahead of another; and, most interesting of all 3) a child born fewer than nine months after his or her parents were married, one who came out sooner than he or she should have. The last is an expression used mainly in the Appalachian Mountains.
