词汇 | snitch |
词源 | snitch. Snitch for an informer is not an Americanism from early days in the West, as some people believe. The term goes back at least to 18th-century England and is recorded in Fran- cis Grose’s Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (1785). Originally snitch was a synonym for a nose. Since nose came to mean an informer in early English slang, so did snitch. |
