词源 | quid. British slang today for a one-pound note and formerly meaning a sovereign or a guinea, quid is of uncertain origin. First recorded in Thomas Shadevell’s Squire of Alsatia (1688) it may come from the Latin quid, “what,” for “the wherewithal.” |
