Mouse-trap; The Mousetrap. Shakespeare and Agatha Chris- tie, an unlikely combination, share the use of this play title. The Mouse-trap is from Shakespeare’s Hamlet (1601), in which it is the play about fratricide arranged by Hamlet to be presented by a troupe of visiting players. Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap, a mystery, had the longest run of any play in history, with over 10,000 performances when it closed, bringing millions to the author’s nephew, to whom she gave all the royalties as a gift when the play opened. |
