词源	automatist. A practitioner of automatic writing (i.e., writing performed without the will of the writer). French writer Thomas Flournoy (fl. early 20th century) was one of several such au- thors who produced a book written in an “unknown tongue.” In 1900, he published Des Indes à la planète Mars, which he claimed to have written in “the Martian language.” The word dates back to about 1880.
