词汇 | marrowsky |
词源 | Marrowsky. spoonerisms, the unintentional shifting of sounds at the beginnings of words (for example, “It is custom- ary to kiss the bride” becomes “It is kisstomary to cuss the bride”), were first called marrowskis, a name said to derive from the name of Polish count Joseph Boruwlaski, who suf- fered the same affliction as Reverend Spooner. The word is first recorded in 1863 and soon after intentional marrowskis be- came the basis for a kind of slang called marrowsky language. Metathesis, the process of shifting letters or sounds, is respon- sible for a number of English words, including dirt, which was earlier drit. |
