词汇 | maoism |
词源 | Maoism. A name given to the Chinese brand of communism, that is, communism adapted to the special needs of China. The term remembers Mao Tse-tung, who dominated communist politics from the outbreak of the revolution until his death in 1976 at 82 and was a virtual dictator in his later years. Collec- tions of his sayings (such as “Engage in no battle you are not sure of winning”) have sold hundreds of millions of copies in Chinese. Similarly, Castroism, after Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro (b. 1927), whose forces overthrew the Fulgencio Batista regime in 1959, describes Cuban communist political and eco- nomic principles. |
