词汇 asiatic hordes
词源
Asiatic hordes. These words are so distasteful to Asians that they have officially asked on several occasions to never be called Asiatics to avoid any association with the term Asiatic hordes. “Hordes” itself, however, is clearly associated with Asians. The word first described the tent of Batu Khan, Genghis Khan’s grandson, who crossed the Volga in 1235 leading the savage Mongol invasion of Europe that left massacred people and lev- eled cities in its path. Batu’s magnificent tent, made mostly of embroidered silk, was called the sira ordu, the “silken camp.” Conquered Poles called it the horda and soon the name “Gold- en Horde” was applied to both Batu’s tent and his army. In time “horde” came to describe any large, savage army, especially in the phrase Asiatic hordes.
