词汇 | feijoa |
词源 | feijoa. The delicious guava (Feijoa sellowiana) is native to South America and grown in Florida and California for its highly esteemed white-fleshed fruit. The small tree, intro- duced into southern Europe in 1890, is named Feijoa for Spanish naturalist J. da Silva Feijo. A member of the myrtle family, it is a small genus noted only for the pineapple guava, which is often called “feijoa.” Closely related to the true guava, its fruit is used widely for jam and jelly. The oblong fruit, about two inches long and a dull green marked with crimson, has a delicate pineapple flavor that literally melts in the mouth. |
