词汇 | fartleberry |
词源 | fartleberry; aarschgnoddle. These two words may never be seen together again, unless, perhaps, in some thesaurus of slang. It is remarkable that these are two words with the same meaning: “[Small globules] of excrement stuck on the anal hair,” according to Eric Partridge in his A Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English (1961). Partridge defines fartleber- ry, which he dates to the 18th or 19th century. Aarschgnoddle is a Pennsylvania Dutch synonym about which I know nothing more, except that Bill Bryson, in his delightful Made in America (1994), says in listing the Pennsylvania Dutch term “no, I can- not think why they might need such a word.” |
