词汇 | widow-s peak |
词源 | widow’s peak. A point formed by the hair growing down and meeting in the middle of the forehead is called a widow’s peak. The term, which dates back at least to the 19th century, derives from the earlier peak, for “the point of a beard,” and possibly from the pointed or peaked hoods that old women sometimes wore. Superstition had it that women with widow’s peaks would become widows at an early age. |
