| 词源 | love child; love brat. Love child, for “a child born out of wed- lock,” isn’t a euphemism from Victorian times, as is often said. The kind words date back at least to 1805, when recorded by a writer referring to love child’s use in another locality. Before this Pope used the similar babe of love in the Dunciad (1728): “Two babes of love close clinging to her waist.” Love brat, a nas- tier variant, is recorded earlier than either expression, some- time in the 17th century. |
