logorrhea. Logorrhea, apparently patterned on diarrhea, comes from the Greek logos, “word,” plus rhein, “flow,” “stream.” It is first recorded as a psychological term in 1904: “Logorrhea refers to the excessive flow of words, a common symptom in cases of mania.” As with many similar terms the word came to be loosely used and can now describe any bigmouth who talks too much. |
