词汇 saw
词源
saw. The name for this tool perhaps derives ultimately from the Latin secare, “to cut,” its first use in England occurring be- fore a.d. 1000. Legend has it that the saw was invented when Perdix, the nephew of Daedalus, picked up the spine of a fish while walking on the seashore and imitated it by notching a long piece of iron on its edge. According to legend, Perdix also invented the compass. The jealous Daedalus tried to push him off a high tower, but the goddess Minerva, favoring ingenuity, changed him into a bird as he fell, and that bird was called the partridge after his name. See partridge.
