词汇 | worry |
词源 | worry. Worry derives from the Old English wyrgan, “to strangle,” which became the Middle English worien. In Middle English the word came to describe the way dogs or wolves kill prey by grasping it with their teeth and shaking it. By the 16th century, worry had evolved and meant to harass. By the time another century had passed, worry was being used for bother or distress. |
